Earthquake in Turkey and Syria

February 6, 2023, was the day Turkey witnessed a massive earthquake that measured

7.8 on the Richter scale. This devastation was followed by another equally destructive

quake that measured 7.5.

Together, these twin earthquakes affected the lives of almost 16 Million people in Syria

and Turkey. Over 55,000 people perished, and close to 150,000 people were injured.

Millions were homeless, living in make-shift camps and shelters. Syria suffered as its

people were already in a civil war. The conflict and logistical challenges resulting from

the chaos created by earthquakes made rescue and rehabilitation efforts very difficult.

During these trying times, our group of motivated students surged into action. Through

bake sales and online and offline donation sales, they raised $5,470 US dollars. Then,

teaming up with Embrace Relief, an international relief and aid organization, those funds

were distributed to people most in need, helping them and their families find their way

back on their feet.
